This page details Kentucky signature requirements. In many states, the signatures of registered voters must be collected to place candidates or initiatives on the ballot. However, for candidates, filing fees are sometimes required or accepted in lieu of signatures.

Federal offices

U.S. Senate

Partisan candidates for Senate are required to submit two (2) notarized signatures from registered voters of the same party from the district or jurisdiction from which candidate seeks nomination and a $500 Filing Fee.[1]

Independent candidates for Senate are required to submit 5,000 signatures and a $500 Filing Fee.[2]

Write-in candidates for Senate must submit a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate and a $50.00 Filing Fee.[3]

U.S. House

Partisan candidates for House are required to submit two (2) notarized signatures from registered voters of the same party from the district or jurisdiction from which candidate seeks nomination and a $500 Filing Fee.[4][1]

Independent candidates for House are required to submit the signatures of 400 registered voters from the district or jurisdiction in which candidate seeks nomination and a $500.00 Filing Fee.[5]

Write-in candidates for House must submit a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate and a $50.00 Filing Fee.[6]

Partisan candidates were required to their declaration of candidacy and filing fees to the Kentucky Secretary of State by January 31, 2012.[7] This date was later changed to February 7, 2012.[8] [9]

State offices

Statewide executive offices

Partisan candidates must submit two (2) notarized signatures from registered voters of the same party from the district or jurisdiction from which candidate seeks nomination and a $500.00 Filing Fee.[10][11]

Independent candidates are required to submit 5,000 signatures and a $500 Filing Fee.[12]

Write-in candidates must submit a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate and a $50.00 Filing Fee.[13][14]

State legislature

Partisan candidates for State Senate and State House are required to submit two (2) notarized signatures from registered voters of the same party from the district or jurisdiction from which candidate seeks nomination and a $200 Filing Fee.[15][16]

Independent candidates for State Senate and State House are required to submit 100 signatures and a $200 Filing Fee.[17][18]

Write-in candidates for State Senate and State House must submit a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate and a $50.00 Filing Fee.[19][20]
