Campaign themes

2012

Stratton's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]

  • Education & Innovation
Excerpt: "Education is our greatest opportunity and our biggest challenge. Funding is always in short supply and innovation and technology must help close the gap. We must also create a healthy economic environment to meet revenue needs and create ongoing educational partnerships. Every child deserves a great education."
  • Economic Vitality
Excerpt: "We are all seeing businesses popping up along the I-15 corridor. They provide great jobs for our valley. And those new businesses will support many small businesses that create more solutions for a variety of industries."
  • Growing Sustainably
Excerpt: "Utah County population is growing. Planning and anticipating for that growth is critical to be ready for the next 20 years. We need to continue to assure our state and communities are safe and prepared. Planning for sustainable communities that match unprecedented growth doesn’t happen by accident."
  • Immigration
Excerpt: "America is an immigrant nation. As such, illegal immigration is caused by poorly constructed legal immigration policies, policies the federal government has failed to fix."
  • Taxes
Excerpt: "Too often, government forgets that tax dollars belong to taxpayers, not government bureaucracies. We place a sacred trust in government to use tax dollars to responsibly support a basic level of government services such as a police force, road construction and public schools. An excessive tax burden means less freedom, fewer economic opportunities, and generally more difficult lives for Utahns."
