Kim Reynolds is the Lieutenant Governor of Iowa, serving since 2011.

Reynolds previously was a Republican member of the Iowa State Senate, representing District 48. Reynolds also served as the Treasurer of Clarke County. On November 12, 2010, Reynolds resigned her position as State Senator in order to fulfill her new position as Lieutenant Governor, effective in 2011. [1]

A February 2013 article in Governing named Reynolds as one of the top state Republican officials to watch in 2013.[2]

Biography

Reynolds has worked as a Pharmacist Assistant. She was also on the Staff for the Clarke County Treasurer's Office, Department of Motor Vehicles. She then worked as a Board Member for the Iowa Public Employees Retirement System from 1996 to 2001.[3]

Education

Reynolds attended Southwestern Community College. She then attended Northwest Missouri State University, majoring in Business Administration/Marketing.

Reynolds is the Lieutenant Governor of Iowa, serving since 2011.

Unlike lieutenant governors in many other states, Reynolds has specific roles, including co-chairing the governor's Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Advisory Council, co-chairing the Iowa Partnership for Economic Progress board, co-chairing the Military Children Education Coalition and serving as Gov. Branstad's representative on the board of the Iowa State Fair.[4]

Reynolds previously was a Republican member of the Iowa State Senate, representing District 48. On November 12, 2010, Reynolds resigned her position as State Senator in order to fulfill her new position as Lieutenant Governor of Iowa, effective in 2011. [5]

Reynolds won election to be lieutenant governor. She faced incumbent Patty Judge (D), Richard Marlar (Iowa Party), Nick Weltha (L) and Helen Meyers (SWP) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[6]

2008

On November 4, 2008, Reynolds was elected to the 48th District Seat in the Iowa State Senate, defeating Ruth Smith (D) and Rodney Schmidt (I). [7] Reynolds raised $118,940 for her campaign, while Smith raised $65,024 and Schmidt raised $0. [8]
