The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was April 22, 2014. Sandy Colvin faces Michael Saari in the Democratic primary. Incumbent Klint Kesto is challenged by Deb O'Hagan and Alan Stephens in the Republican primary.[4]

Kesto won eleciton in the 2012 election for Michigan House of Representatives District 39. He defeated Albert Clawson, Nicholas Kennedy, Brad Hantler, Bubba Urdan, and Kristine Zrinyi in the August 7 Republican primary and defeated Pam Jackson (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[5][6]
