Larry John Edgell (b. November 16, 1946) is a Democratic member of the West Virginia State Senate, representing District 2. He was first elected to the chamber in 1998.

Edgell was named as State Senate President Pro Tempore in January 2013. He previously served as Majority Whip.[1]

Edgell served as a member on the New Martinsville City Council from 1966 to 1970.


Edgell earned his B.A. from Fairmont State College. He went on to earn his M.A. from Salem Teikyo University. His professional experience includes working as an educator. Edgell has served in the United States Navy.[2]

Elections for the office of West Virginia State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 13, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was January 25, 2014. Incumbent Larry Edgell was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Kent Leonhardt was unopposed in the Republican primary. Leonhardt defeated Edgell and Jeffrey Jarrell (Constitution) in the general election.[3][4]
