Larry Norman Borland is an at-large member of the Academy School District 20 Board of Education in Colorado. He won election to the board on November 5, 2013.

Biography

Borland resides in El Paso County, Colorado. Borland earned his B.S. in Sociology and Criminology from Colorado State University-Pueblo in 1977, his M.A. in the same fields from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs in 1981 and his Master's in Public Administration from the University of Colorado, Denver in 1990. He began his career in school security as a security director with Colorado Springs School District 11 from 1995 to 2003 before he joined the Douglas County School District as its executive director of safety and transportation from 2003 to 2008. In 2008, Borland took his current position as the Chief of Security with Academy School District 20.[1]

Borland received an endorsement for his campaign from the Colorado Springs Independent.[3]

What was at stake?

Three seats, including those of the board president, vice president and treasurer were at stake. Doug Lundberg, who served as the vice president of the board, was ineligible to run for another term because of Amendment 17 to the Colorado Constitution, which states that no "elected official of any...school district....shall serve more than two consecutive terms in office."[4] Incumbents Linda Van Matre and Catherine Bullock ran for re-election against challengers Shannon Mendes, Larry Norman Borland and Andrea Van Nort.[5]
