Larry Townsend (b. June 10, 1947, d. June 29, 2013) was a Democratic member of the Vermont House of Representatives. Townsend represented Orange-Washington-Addison. He was first elected to the chamber in 2008, following the sudden death of incumbent Democratic candidate Jim Hutchinson during the campaign. On June 29, 2013, Townsend died of cancer.[1][2][3]

Biography

Townsend earned his AS in Electronics from Vermont Technical College in 1967. He was the co-manager of Onion Flats, Inc. Restaurant.

Townsend served on the School Board of Randolph Union High School from 1986 to 1995. He has served as a Selectman for Randolph on the Vermont Selectboard since 1979.

Townsend served in the United State Army from 1968 to 1971.

Townsend won re-election in the 2012 election for Vermont House of Representatives District Orange-Washington-Addison. Townsend was unopposed in the August 28 Democratic primary and was unopposed in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[4][5]

Larry Townsend ran for re-election to the Orange-Addison 1 District in 2010. He ran against Patsy French (D), James Sault (R), and Stewart Skrill (R) in the general election on November 2, 2010. Townsend won one of two available seats in the district.[6]
