Walsh won election in the 2012 election for Illinois House of Representatives District 86. Walsh was placed on the ballot after the March 20 Democratic primary, when nominee and incumbent Jack McGuire (D) resigned, and defeated Ryan Martin Alm (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[2]
