LeAnna Washington has been a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania State Senate since 2005. Tomlison won a special election in 2005 to fill the seat. Tomilson was re-elected in November of 2010 with her term expiring in 2014. Before becoming a Senator, Tomilson served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1993 till she was elected to the Pennsylvania Senate in 2005.

Before becoming a elected official, Washington was a Manager for the Philadelphia Parking Authority Employee Assistance Program and a District Office Manager for former State Senator Joseph Rocks. Washington graduated from Lincoln University with her Master's in Human Services degree in 1989.
