The Tennessee Lieutenant Governor is the speaker of the Tennessee State Senate and first in line in the succession to the office of governor of Tennessee in the event of the death, resignation, or removal from office through impeachment and conviction of the governor of the U.S. state of Tennessee. Unlike most states, the lieutenant governor is not elected by voters but instead elected by the state General Assembly.

Duties

The main duty of the lieutenant governor is to assume the office of governor if necessary. Additionally, in the role of lieutenant governor, the Speaker of the Senate appoints all officers and members of Senate committees, unless otherwise directed by the Senate. Lieutenant governor can also remove members from committee posts and appoints members of various boards and commissions throughout the state government.[2]
