Newell is running for re-election in the 2012 election for Colorado State Senate District 26. She ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 26, 2012. She will face Dave Kerber (R) in the general election which takes place on November 6, 2012. [2][3]


On November 4, 2008, Newell was elected to the 26th District Seat in the Colorado State Senate, defeating opponent Lauri Clapp (R).[4]
