Louis Pinkerton was a 2012 Democratic candidate for District 40 of the North Dakota House of Representatives. He represented District 5 of the North Dakota House of Representatives from 2006 to 2010.

Pinkerton is the owner and veterinarian of Pinkerton Animal Hospital. He earned his BS/DVM at Texas A&M. Pinkerton and his wife, Ruth, have four children. [1]

Pinkerton ran in the 2012 election for North Dakota House District 40. Pinkerton and Sue Olafson ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 12. They were defeated by incumbents Matthew Klein and Robert Frantsvog in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[2]

Note: As of April 24, no Republican candidates had qualified for the ballot in District 40. Incumbents Matthew Klein (R) and Robert Frantsvog (R) did not file the proper paperwork before the filing deadline. Ultimately, Klein and Frantsvog earned the Republican nomination by each receiving at least 143 write-in votes in the June 12 primary.[3][4]

Pinkerton lost his bid for re-election to one of two seats in District 5 of the North Dakota House of Representatives. Scott Louser (R) and Roger Brabandt (R) were elected to represent the district.[5] The election took place on November 2, 2010.[6]
