Louisiana to elect one of five public service commissioners in 2012

Louisiana

Baton Rouge, LA: In 1921, the Louisiana Constitution created the Louisiana Public Service Commission. The commission is a five-person board, with members elected to overlapping six-yaer terms. Its primary duty is to regulate common carriers and public utilities. Its members are also responsible for administering the rules, regulations and procedures that govern Louisiana's utilities.

In 2012, voters in Louisiana will elect one of the commission's five members. Commissioner James Field (R) is up for election in 2012. Although Field has not officially declared his intention to run, he is expected to seek another term in office. Field was first elected in 1996 and has served on the commission for the past 15 years.

Originally from Baton Rouge, Field attended the Louisiana State University for both his undergraduate and law degrees. On the commission, he represents East Feliciana, Iberia, Lafayette, Lafourche, St. Mary, Terrebonne, West Feliciana, and portions of East Baton Rouge, Iberville, Livingston, St. Martin, and West Baton Rouge.[1]
