Seven statewide ballot measures were on the November 3, 2009 ballot in Maine.[1] Maine is one of a handful of states that conducts elections on citizen-initiated measures in odd-numbered years.

  • Three measures passed, while four measures were defeated.
  • Four proposed measures did not make the November 2009 ballot.

Ballot measure requirements

The filing deadline for the November ballot was January 22, 2009. The number of valid signatures required to place a measure on the November 3 ballot was 55,087, or 10% of the total votes cast for Governor at the November 7, 2006 election.
