The Maine Commissioner of Conservation is a statutory position in the Maine state government. The commissioner serves as head of the Department of Conservation, responsible for preserving, protecting and enhancing Maine's land resources.

On August 30, 2012, the agency, along with the Department of Agriculture, were merged into the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.[1]

Current officeholder

The current officeholder is Bill Beardsley. He was appointed by Gov. Paul LePage in 2011.

Appointments

As outlined in Title 12, Part 8, Chapter 428, §5011 of the Maine State Statutes, the Commissioner is appointed by the Governor of Maine and subject to review by legislative committee and confirmation by the Legislature.[2]

Compensation

In 2010, the Maine Commissioner of Conservation was paid an estimated $89,523 according to the Council of State Governments.[3]
