The Maine Commissioner of Labor is a position in the Maine state government. The commissioner acts as head of the Department of Labor. The department is primarily responsible for overseeing the state’s unemployment benefits program, running a variety of programs to help out-of-work residents train for and find jobs, and enforcing labor laws and researching employment data and trends.[1]

The current officeholder is Jeanne Paquette. She was appointed by Gov. Paul LePage in August 2012. She previously served as the deputy to former commissioner Robert Winglass, who stepped down from his position in August 2012.[1]

Appointments

The Commissioner is appointed by the Governor of Maine and subject to review by the Legislature's Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development Committee and confirmation by the Legislature.[2]
