The current officeholder is Jeanne Paquette. She was appointed by Gov. Paul LePage in August 2012. She previously served as the deputy to former commissioner Robert Winglass, who stepped down from his position in August 2012.

The commissioner of labor is responsible for overseeing the Maine Department of Labor, which enforces labor regulations, ensures safe working conditions, maintains accountable employment and training programs, and manages unemployment benefits programs in Maine.
