A Maine Income Tax Repeal Initiative, appearing on the ballot as Measure 1, was on the November 2, 1971 ballot in Maine. It was defeated.

  • In favor: 63,393
  • Opposed: 190,261

It was the ninth initiative to appear on the Maine ballot subsequent to the time that I&R was approved as a process in Maine in 1908.

The Income Tax Repeal initiative, in 1971, was the first initiative on the Maine ballot since 1947, thus breaking a 24-year-gap in initiatives.
