The Maine Superintendent of Insurance is a statutory position in the Maine state government. The Superintendent acts as head of the Bureau of Insurance.

Current officeholder

The current officeholder is Eric Cioppa. He was appointed to serve as acting director by Gov. Paul LePage on June 1, 2011 after Mila Kofman resigned.[1]

Appointments

As outlined in Title 24-A, Chapter 3, §201 of the Maine Insurance Code, the superintendent is appointed by the Governor of Maine and subject to review by legislative committee and confirmation by the Legislature.

Superintendents hold office for 5 years or until a successor is named.[2]

Compensation

In 2010, the Maine Superintendent of Insurance was paid an estimated $96,553 according to the Council of State Governments.[3]
