Mamye E. BaCote is a Democratic member of the Virginia House of Delegates, representing District 95. She was first elected to the chamber in 2004.


BaCote earned her M.A. from Hampton Institute in 1967 and her A.B. from Virginia Union University in 1960.

Prior to her election to the House, BaCote served as Councilwoman on the Newport News City Council from 1996 to 2003. She currently sits on the board of Peninsula Habitat for Humanity and Newport News Public Art Foundation.[1]

  • HB 1910 Firearms; localities may adopt ordinance prohibiting thereof in libraries owned by locality.
  • HB 1911 Retirement System; retirees may be hired as teachers without interrupting retirement benefits.
  • HB 2571 Restricted driver's license; court to provide during period of suspension.[2]

BaCote is running for re-election in the 2013 election for Virginia House of Delegates District 95. BaCote ran unopposed in the June 11 Democratic primary and is challenged by John Bloom (R) in the general election which takes place on November 5, 2013.

BaCote is running for re-election to the District 95 seat of the Virginia House of Delegates. She was uncontested in the August 23 primary and will be opposed by Glenn McGuire (L) in the November 8 general election.[4]
