Manistee School District Bond Measure (August 2011)
This measure seeks to issue a bond in the amount of $14 million in order to help pay for upgrading technology in current school buildings and upgrade and renovate the school athletic fields as well as buying new school buses and remodeling current facilities as needed.
The school board had approved a budget for the following school year before they were told how much state funding would be cut. This bond would help pay for those changes that the board already had approved but were unable to get enough funding for from the state. The proposed bond would increase local taxes by a rate of 1.62 mills. The board had originally thought to have a larger bond but managed to reduce the projects and now hope the smaller increase will be able to get approval from voters.
