This measure sought to renew the current medical levy which is set at a rate of $1.00 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further six years in order to continue to pay for emergency medical equipment purchase and maintenance costs in the township.[2]

The question on the ballot:

Shall the Township of Marcellus, Cass County, Michigan, renew the one mill (1 mill) tax levy ($1.00 on each $1000.00) of the assessed taxable value, as equalized, of all property in Marcellus Township (approved at the election of August 8, 2006, set to expire with the 2012 tax levy) for a period of six (6) years, 2013 through 2018, inclusive, for the purpose of providing funds for the purchase and maintenance of equipment for fire and ambulance service through the Marcellus Area Emergency Services Association? It is anticipated that the revenue collected by the Township as a result of this proposal will be approximately $66,000.00 in the first calendar year of the levy.[3]
