Berrios won re-election in the 2012 election for Illinois House of Representatives District 39. Berrios defeated Will Guzzardi in the March 20 Democratic primary and was unopposed in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3][4]

The March 20 primary was separated by less than 150 votes. Guzzardi initially demanded a recount and challenged the results. However, on May 1, 2012, he conceded defeated.[5]
