Coleman and his wife have owned and operated Coleman's Car Teach and QuickStop for 27 years. He has served as an Alderman for Ward 2, Calhoun County since 2002 and is currently a MSgt in the Mississippi Army National Guard.
Coleman holds a Bachelor in business and public administration from the University of Phoenix.

In late September, Coleman asked a judge to review the election returns, stating that he believed there should have been a runoff between himself and Jolly. "I don't know what the outcome will be. All I know is that we have identified some irregularities ... and we want people to do the honest thing for the election," Coleman said.
Coleman and his wife, Bernadette, have two children.
