Anderson ran in the 2012 election for Iowa House of Representatives District 36. Anderson defeated Cara Kennedy-Ode and William Rock in the Democratic primary on June 5, 2012. She defeated Jeff Ibbotson (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
