Nichols earned her A.A. from Monticello College in 1969 and B.S. from Southern Illinois University in 1972. Her professional experience includes working as a residential real estate sales person at Coldwell Banker Gundaker.

Nichols defeated incumbent Eileen Grant McGeoghegan and Paul Berry in the August 7 Democratic primary and defeated Patrick J.
