Mary Taylor, (b. March 7, 1966 in Green, Ohio), is the 65th and current Lieutenant Governor of Ohio. A Republican, she was first elected in 2010 on a ticket with John Kasich and assumed office on January 10, 2011. Upon being sworn in, Kasich appointed Taylor to also serve as the Ohio Director of Insurance and to head up CSI Ohio - the "Common Sense Initiative" to reform the state's regulatory policies.[1]

The office of lieutenant governor is part of the governor's office and has no budget itself. Naming Taylor to head the Department of Insurance allowed her to collect a higher salary while also saving money that would have otherwise come from the governor's budget.[2]

Prior to becoming lieutenant governor, Taylor served as Ohio State Auditor from 2007-2011 and was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2003-2006.[1] She began her career in politics in 2001 when she was elected to the Green City Council.

During her time as auditor, Taylor targeted the administration of then Gov. Ted Strickland (D). He, in return, accused her of using her office for political motivation.[3]
