The Maryland Secretary of Agriculture is a state executive position in the Maryland state government. The Secretary serves as head of the Department of Agriculture, a part of the executive branch that was established in 1972.[1]

Current officeholder

The current officeholder is Buddy Hance. He was appointed by Gov. Martin O'Malley in 2009.

Authority

The authority of the Department of Agriculture and its secretary comes under the Annotated Code of Maryland - Title 2 and the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) - Title XV.[2]

The Secretary of Agriculture is appointed by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Senate.

Compensation

In 2010, the Maryland Secretary of Agriculture was paid an estimated $130,050 according to the Council of State Governments.[3]
