The Maryland Secretary of Natural Resources is a state executive position in the Maryland state government. The Secretary serves as head of the Department of Natural Resources and is responsible for overseeing the preservation, development and use of Maryland's natural resources.[1]

Current officeholder

The current officeholder is John Griffin. He was appointed by Gov. Martin O'Malley in 2007.

The Secretary of Natural Resources is appointed by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Senate.

Compensation

In 2010, the Maryland Secretary of Natural Resources was paid an estimated $148,787 according to the Council of State Governments.[2]
