The Maryland attorney general election will take place on November 4, 2014. Incumbent Doug Gansler (D) was first elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2010. Despite being eligible to run for re-election to his current post, Gansler announced on June 1, 2013 that he would not seek a third term as attorney general in 2014 and instead run for Governor of Maryland.[1]

Maryland is one of 21 states with a mixed primary system. Parties decide who may vote in their primary election and generally close it to all voters except those registered with their party.[2] The primary was held on June 24, 2014.
