The Massachusetts Commissioner of Insurance acts as the head of the Division of Insurance, which is part of the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR).

The Division of Insurance is responsible for regulation of the insurance industry and protection of consumers.[1]

Current officeholder

The current officeholder is Joseph Murphy. He assumed office in February 2010.


The Commissioner of the Division of Insurance is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Governor.


In 2010, the Massachusetts Commissioner of Insurance was paid an estimated $94,548 according to the Council of State Governments.[2]
