The Massachusetts Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs is a state executive position in the Massachusetts state government.

The secretary serves as head of the Department of Energy and Environmental Affairs, which oversees six regulatory agencies - the Departments of Environmental Protection, Public Utilities, Energy Resources, Conservation & Recreation, Agriculture, and Fish & Game.

The current officeholder is Richard Sullivan. He was appointed by Gov. Deval Patrick in 2011.

The position of secretary of energy and environmental affairs is established by Part I, Title II, Chapter 21A, Section 1 of the General Laws of Massachusetts:[1]

There shall be an executive office of energy and environmental affairs, hereinafter called the office, which shall be under the supervision of a secretary of energy and environmental affairs...

In accordance with Part I, Title II, Chapter 21A, Section 1 of the General Laws of Massachusetts, the secretary is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the governor.

Compensation

In 2010, the Massachusetts Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs was paid an estimated $120,000 according to the Council of State Governments.[2]
