Matt Murphy is a Republican member of the Illinois State Senate. Murphy was first elected in November of 2006 with his term expiring in 2010.

He is currently one of three State Senators, among other candidates, running for the Republican nomination for Governor of Illinois.

On November 4, 2008, Republican Matt Murphy won re-election to the Illinois State Senate District 27 receiving 52,202 votes, ahead of Democrat Peter Gutzmer who received 37,220 votes.[1]
