Matthew Choate was a Democratic member of the Vermont State Senate since 2009, representing Caledonia County.

Choate ran for the Vermont State Senate in 2004 and 2006 unsuccessfully. He was elected in 2008, and he represents Caledonia County.

Choate is a registered nurse for Vermont Poison Center, Fletcher Allen Health Care from 1997 to 2007, and for Cross Country Travcorps from 2001 to 2003. He worked as Emergency Clinical Coordinator for Central Vermont Hospital Center from 2003 to 2005. Choate is currently Nurse Manager at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

Choate earned his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Vermont in 1992. He went on to receive his BSN in Nursing from the University of Vermont in 1997. He is currently enrolled in the MBA program in Business at Northeastern University.

Choate was defeated in his bid for re-election to the Caledonia District. Choate ran for re-election to the 5th District Seat (Caledonia District) in 2010 against Jane Kitchel in the primary. In the general election he was defeated by Jane Kitchel (D), and Joe Benning (R) on November 2, 2010.

2008

On November 4, 2008, Choate won election by finishing second for the two-seat Caledonia District of the Vermont State Senate, receiving 8,975 votes behind Democrat Jane Kitchel (12,097) and ahead of Republicans John Hall (7,683) and John Kascenska (4,242) and write-ins (24).[1]

Choate raised $15,571 for his campaign, against $11,851 by Kitchel, $8,185 by Hall, and $5,524 by Kascenska.[2]
