Max Maxfield (born 1945) is the 20th and current Wyoming Secretary of State. A Republican, Maxfield was first elected to the statewide position in 2006 and re-elected in 2010. In this position he also serves as State’s Chief Elections Officer, Securities Commissioner, Notaries Public Commissioner, Corporations Administrator and ex officio lieutenant governor.[1]

After directing nonprofit organizations for 23 years, Maxfield served as director of two cabinet level departments, the Wyoming Recreation Commission and the Wyoming Department of Commerce. In 1998 he was elected as the state's 18th Auditor.[2] After serving two terms in that office he was easily elected as secretary of state in 2006 by a margin of 82 to 18 percent.[3]

Maxfield is eligible for re-election in 2014, but he has not yet declared if he is running for a third term.

Maxfield was previously a YMCA director, a director of the Wyoming Recreation Commission from 1987-89, and the first appointed director of the Wyoming Department of Commerce from 1989-94. He was also the executive director of the Wyoming Make-A-Wish Foundation. Maxfield continues to serve as a financial consultant for a number of non-profit agencies in and outside the state of Wyoming, including United Way of Laramie County, Wyoming Children's Society, Crimestoppers, Wyoming Alzheimer's Association, and the Special Olympics of Wyoming.
