Merritt Carothers was a Democratic candidate for District 86 of the Alabama House of Representatives. The primary election was on June 1, 2010 and the general election was on November 2.

Carothers attended Wallace Community College and Troy University. He then graduated from Alabama Military Academy. He served in the Alabama National Guard for 20 years as a Tank Commander/Platoon Sergeant.

Carothers is currently employed for Army Fleet Support at Fort Rucker and has been for the past 25 years. He is a weapons system technician and works on attack helicopters. He also currently serves on the Taylor Town Council.

Carothers and his wife, Paula, have two children.
