Michael J. Rubio is a Democratic member of the California State Senate. He was first elected in 2010. He formerly served on the Board of Supervisors of the Fifth District from 2004 to 2010.

Rubio attended Bakersfield College. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of New Haven. He went on to complete the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Rubio initially declared to run for election to the U.S. House in 2012.[2] In late December 2011 he withdrew, citing a desire to focus on his family. [3]
