Karickhoff has been facilities director of Ivy Tech Community College since 2002. Previously, he was head of the Kokomo, IN Parks and Recreation Department, during which he supervised the creation of Kokomo Beach, Jackson Morrow Park, the Kirkendall Nature Center, and other projects. He began his career as assistant director and then director of the Hannibal, MO Parks and Recreation Department. Karickhoff holds a B.S. in Recreation and Park Administration from the University of Missouri.
