Michael Kearns is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly. He has represented District 145 since winning the March 20, 2012 special election.

Kearns, a self-identified Democrat, ran on the Republican ticket to challenge the endorsed Democratic candidate. The special election was called to fill the vacancy created when Mark Schroeder (D) resigned after being elected Buffalo City comptroller.[1]

After his election, Kearns wrote a leader to Democratic leadership confirming his intention to join the Assembly Democratic conference. After writing the letter and meeting with party leadership, he was accepted into the conference.[2]
