Michael Kearns was a Republican candidate in the March 20, 2012 special election for the New York State Assembly, District 145. Kearns is a self-identified Democrat who ran on the Republican ticket to challenge the endorsed Democratic candidate. The special election was called to fill the vacancy created when Mark Schroeder (D) resigned after being elected Buffalo City comptroller.[1]

Kearns defeated Christopher Fahey (D) in the March 20, 2012 special election. Kearns also ran on the Independence Party ticket. Fahey also ran on the Working Family and Conservative Party tickets. Kearns is a self-identified Democrat who ran on the Republican ticket to challenge Fahey.[2][3]
