Shurin ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent New Jersey's 8th District. He lost to incumbent Albio Sires in the June 5 Democratic primary.[1]

While Sires had the incumbent advantage of name recognition and a well-funded campaign, Shurin said he used social media and other low-cost methods to get his name out there in what he called "guerilla campaign style."[3][4]
