Michael Simanowitz is a Democratic candidate in the September 13 special election for the New York State Assembly, District 27. The special election was called to fill the vacancy created when Nettie Mayersohn (D) retired from the Assembly.[1]

Simanowitz graduated from Queens College with a BA in Political Science. He served as outgoing Assemblywoman Mayersohn's Chief of Staff for over 14 years. He is also a Deputy Inspector with the NYPD.[2]

Simanowitz faces Marco Desena (R) and Justin Jacobs (New Yorkers for Reform) in the September 13, 2011 special election. Simanowitz is also running on the Independence and Working Family Party tickets.
