Michael Smith was a 2011 Democratic candidate for District 39 of the Mississippi State Senate. He lost in the primary election to W.L. Rayburn.

Smith is a retired firefighter. He has worked as a lobbyist with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, National Forest Service, and Department of Environmental Quality.

Smith ran in the 2011 election for Mississippi Senate District 39. He lost to W.L. Rayburn in the primary on August 2, 2011. Bill Boerner and Sally Doty defeated David Nichols, II in the Republican primary and will face each other in the primary runoff election on August 23, 2011. The general election took place on November 8, 2011. [1]
