Yantachka earned a BS in mathematics from King's College and an MS in mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Yantachka is a retired computer specialist. He spent the bulk of his career with IBM, and now works seasonally as a tax specialist with H&R Block. He has been a Justice of the Peace since 1993, and served on the Charlotte Central School Board from 1998-2003. He has chaired the Charlotte Democratic Committee and the Chittenden County Democratic Committee.

Yantachka won re-election in the 2012 election for Vermont House of Representatives Chittenden 4-1. Yantachka was unopposed in the August 28 Democratic primary and defeated Ed Stone (R) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.
