Michigan House of Representatives
Elections for the office of Michigan House of Representatives were held in Michigan on November 2, 2010. The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in these elections was May 11, 2010 and the primary election day was on August 3, 2010.

Representatives are elected in even-numbered years to 2-year terms, and take office on the first day of January following the election. Each representative is limited to serving three terms.

The Michigan House of Representatives has been a term-limited state house since Michigan voters approved Proposal B in 1992. Proposal B created Section 54 of Article IV of the Michigan Constitution. It says that state representatives are limited to 3 two-year terms. As with five other states, this is a lifetime limit.

34 of Michigan's 110 representatives, or 31%, were termed-out in 2010.

In addition to the 34 Michigan state representatives who left office because of term limits, 29 Michigan state senators are also termed-out.

According to a Detroit Free Press article, the Michigan House is a toss up. One pundit said "Republicans have a 50-50 chance of taking control of the House."[1] Democrats have $1.3 million left while Republicans have $206,000.[1] To date, Democrats have raised $5 million while Republicans have raised $4.8 million.[2] According to a Detroit News-WDIV Local 4 poll, likely voters prefer a split legislature -- with Republicans and Democrats each controlling one chamber -- by a 56 percent to 28 percent margin.[2]

Section 7 of Article 4 of the Michigan Constitution states, "Each senator and representative must be a citizen of the United States, at least 21 years of age, and an elector of the district he represents. The removal of his domicile from the district shall be deemed a vacation of the office. No person who has been convicted of subversion or who has within the preceding 20 years been convicted of a felony involving a breach of public trust shall be eligible for either house of the legislature."
