Mike Callton is a Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing District 87 since January 1, 2011.


Though he has yet to cast a single vote, Callton is one of just three Republicans to receive campaign donations from the Michigan Education Association- the labor union of the majority of Michigan public school employees.[1]

The union, which opposes tax and budget cuts, donated $5,000 to Callton's campaign- more than they gave to the Speaker of the Michigan House and equal to their donation to the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, which oversees, among other things, school spending.[1]

Though recent polling shows that, a large percentage of teachers nationwide consider themselves 'conservative,"[2] of the 91 candidates for the Michigan State Senate and House, only three are Republicans.[1]

Callton won election to the District 87 Seat in 2010. He defeated Michael Bremer and Steve Fabiano in the August 3 Republican primary. He defeated Greg Grives (D) in the general election on November 2, 2010.
