Mazzei received a B.A. in Government/Politics from George Mason University. He is also attended the College of Financial Planning. In addition to serving as a state senator, Mazzei is the founder and president of The Financial Coach, Inc.
Indefinite leave
In February 2010 Mazzei announced he would be taking an indefinite medical leave of absence, due to a back injury he suffered in 2008. A statement from his office said that due to nerve damage Mazzei would need bed rest for six to eight weeks.[1]
