Minnesota Legislative Pay Council Amendment (2016)
The amendment's sponsors say that the establishment of an independent council would remove the conflict of interest that comes with legislators setting their own pay.
According to the measure's supporters, there has not been a pay raise in the state legislature since 1999. They argue that the current salary of $31,000 may be discouraging prospective candidates from running for office due the time demands involved with serving in the legislature.
