Background
The campaign began with incumbent Republican Delbert Hosemann's announcement on February 23rd, 2011 that he would run for re-election. He claimed to have decreased filing fees for small businesses and helped shrink the size of government by managing his office through budget cuts.[1] Richard "Ricky" Dombrowski, city council president of Gulfport, MS, announced he would challenge incumbent Hosemann on March 1, 2011. Dombrowski said the impetus for his run was Hosemann's efforts to take control of Gulfport's harbor against the will of its municipal government.[2] No Democrats stood to challenge Hosemann.
