Burke earned her BA from Marymount College. She then attended the London School of Economics. She later received her MFA from Goddard College.
Burke was a Figure Skating Instructor at the Brattleboro Figure Skating Club from 1976 to 2005. In 2008, she worked as founder/director of Art in the Neighborhood. She has worked for the Brattleboro Recreation Department since 1978. Burke has also worked for Hilltop Montessori School since 1987. She has been an Artist-in-Residence at various Vermont schools from 1999 to the present.
